Progression

Prison ranks, prestige and rebirths explained

Prison progression has three layers: ranks, prestige, and rebirth. Ranks are A through Z. Prestige resets your rank to A in exchange for a permanent bonus. Rebirth resets your prestige count in exchange for a larger permanent bonus. Servers that only have the first layer are finishable in a week.

Ranks: A to Z

Twenty-six mines, each rankup costing more than the last. The interesting question is the shape of the curve. A well-tuned server keeps each rankup roughly proportional to your earning rate at that rank, so the whole ladder takes a predictable amount of play. A badly tuned one is flat until about mine M and then vertical.

Prestige

At Z you prestige. Your rank resets to A, your balance usually resets too, and you keep a permanent multiplier, an extra backpack row, an enchantment slot, or access to a prestige-only mine. Prestige counts are written P1, P2 and so on, and the second climb through A to Z is far faster than the first because your multiplier came with you.

Some servers gate content behind prestige rather than rank: prestige mines, prestige enchants, prestige-only warps. That is generally a good sign, because it means the ladder past Z was designed rather than bolted on.

Rebirth

Rebirth is prestige for prestige. After a set number of prestiges, usually somewhere between P10 and P50, you rebirth: the prestige counter resets and you gain a much larger permanent bonus. Written R1, R2 and so on.

Rebirth is where prison numbers stop resembling Minecraft. Balances run into quadrillions and beyond, sell multipliers stack on multipliers, and the interesting decision becomes when to reset rather than what to mine. Our number one at play.talonmc.net ranks you through mines with /mine goto rather than lettered ones, and opens rebirths, multipliers and a dynamic /upgrade system behind them, which is a longer runway than most.

How to judge a progression system in ten minutes

  • Ask how many prestiges exist, and whether prestige unlocks anything or is purely a multiplier. Purely a multiplier gets boring fast.
  • Ask whether rebirth exists. If it does not, work out how long Z takes, because that is the game's length.
  • Check whether prestige is purchasable. If the store sells prestige levels, the ladder is a price list.
