Custom-coded rather than a stock prison plugin: you rank up through mines with /mine goto, mine Tokens, and spend them on OP enchants including Jackhammer for.
Gamemode: OP Prison · Version: 1.8 - 26.2 · Bedrock: Yes · Full review

Jartex documents its prison mode on its own wiki rather than leaving you to guess: public mines, a personal cell to build in, gangs with missions and an outpost to capture.
Gamemode: OP Prison · Version: 1.8 - 26.2 · Bedrock: Yes · Full review

play.mccentral.org
1,026 online now network-wide, all gamemodes · 1,020-1,041 today · verified online 2 minutes ago
Minecraft Central is a long-running multi-gamemode network whose own server message was advertising a fresh prison reset when we last pinged it, which means the mode is.
Gamemode: Classic Prison · Version: 1.8 - 26.2 · Bedrock: Yes · Full review
JavaBedrock
play.mc-complex.com
1,535 online now network-wide, all gamemodes · 1,235-2,017 today · verified online 2 minutes ago
One of the longest-running modded networks in Minecraft, with prison as one lane of a very wide lineup.

ManaCube lists prison directly in its own server message, next to survival, parkour, earth, PvP, skyblock and creative, so the mode is one lane of a genuinely broad network.
Gamemode: Classic Prison · Version: 1.8 - 26.2 · Bedrock: Yes · Full review

extremecraft.net

A long-established network that runs prison alongside survival and a custom item economy, and the highest-placed entry here in TopG's prison category.
Gamemode: Prison · Version: 1.7.2 - 26.2 · Bedrock: No · Full review
JavaBedrock
play.opblocks.com
631 online now network-wide, all gamemodes · 508-801 today · verified online 2 minutes ago
OPBlocks names prison in its own server message and had just launched prison season 34 when we pinged it, so seasonal resets are the rhythm here rather than one permanent.
Gamemode: OP Prison · Version: 1.8 - 26.2 · Bedrock: Yes · Full review
JavaBedrock
purpleprison.net

Purple Prison is a prison-only server rather than a network lane, which is why its player count is entirely prison players and not a network total.
Gamemode: Classic Prison · Version: 1.7 - 1.21 · Bedrock: Yes · Full review
Java only
play.cosmicprisons.com

saicopvp.com

SaiCoPvP runs its gamemodes as separate realms and had just reset all of them when we pinged it, so every mode including prison was starting fresh.
Gamemode: Prison · Version: 1.8 - 1.21.11 · Bedrock: No · Full review
OP prison runs boosted sell prices, multipliers and prestige loops rather than vanilla-paced mining, and these entries are built that way.
play.talonmc.net · 2,382 onlineplay.jartexnetwork.com · 1,107 onlineplay.opblocks.com · 631 onlineplay.cosmicprisons.com · 164 onlineEvery prison server on this page is free to join and free to play, so F2P is really a question about how far you get without opening the store. The only no-cost head start we could verify on this list is <code>/freerank</code> on our number one, which hands you a rank on your first join instead of leaving you on a wooden pickaxe. For the rest, free to join is confirmed and the store contents are not something we have audited item by item.
play.talonmc.net · 2,382 onlinepurpleprison.net · 438 onlineextremecraft.net · 815 onlineplay.manacube.com · 1,209 onlineClassic prison keeps the original lettered mine ladder with a plot world and PvP warps. These entries still run that shape. Our number one is listed alongside them because it keeps the same slow-to-fast rank progression, though it ranks you through mines with <code>/mine goto</code> rather than lettered ones.

It runs prison alongside four other gamemodes on one address, hands you a rank on your first join through /freerank, and takes Java and Bedrock clients. JartexNetwork (play.jartexnetwork.com) is second on the list.
The prison server IP we rank first is play.talonmc.net, which is TalonMC. Paste it into the Add Server box in the Minecraft multiplayer menu.
Concurrent players is a weaker signal than it looks, and on this list the figures are not even comparable to each other: most entries are networks that report one total across every gamemode they run, so a large number can mean a busy skyblock lane and a quiet prison. We publish each count with its scope labelled and a by-count view at https://bestprisonservers.com/top-minecraft-prison-servers, our #1 first. The prison server we rank first is TalonMC (play.talonmc.net).
These prison servers on our list answered a Bedrock ping on port 19132: TalonMC (play.talonmc.net), JartexNetwork (play.jartexnetwork.com), Minecraft Central (play.mccentral.org), Complex Gaming (play.mc-complex.com), ManaCube (play.manacube.com), OPBlocks (play.opblocks.com), Purple Prison (purpleprison.net). Every other entry is Java only.
Open Minecraft, choose Multiplayer, click Add Server, and paste the address, for example play.talonmc.net for TalonMC. Prison servers on this list accept client versions between 1.7 and 26.2, so you rarely need to change your Minecraft version.
Not in the way that usually matters, though it is not a flat no either. TalonMC sells progression boosts, currently multipliers on money, job XP and catch rate, alongside ranks and crates, so paying does make you faster. What it does not do is gate anything: every rank, crate and reward on the store is also obtainable in game through playtime, votes and events, and /freerank grants a rank on your first join. Read it as paid acceleration rather than paid power, and judge that for yourself. TalonMC's server IP is play.talonmc.net.
Classic prison keeps the original mine ladder from A to Z with vanilla-ish sell prices, so rankup is slow and PvP at the warps matters. OP prison layers multipliers, boosted sell prices, enchant trees and prestige resets on top, so numbers climb far faster. On this list TalonMC, JartexNetwork, OPBlocks and CosmicPrisons run the OP shape, and Purple Prison and Minecraft Central run closer to the classic one.
Yes. Every server on this list is free to join and free to play; the cost of entry is a Minecraft account. TalonMC (play.talonmc.net) goes further and hands you a rank on your first join through /freerank.
We review the order once a week and every move is written up on https://bestprisonservers.com/changes, dated to the week it happened. Player counts on this page refresh every three minutes, independently of the weekly recompute.
TalonMC is the gentlest start, because a free rank on join means you are not mining your first hour on a wooden pickaxe, and <code>/mine goto</code> makes the next step obvious. If you would rather learn the classic lettered ladder at its original pace, Purple Prison has run that progression for years.
The best Minecraft prison server IP is play.talonmc.net, which is TalonMC. Copy it into Add Server under Multiplayer in the Minecraft launcher and you are in.
1. TalonMC (play.talonmc.net). 2. JartexNetwork (play.jartexnetwork.com). 3. Minecraft Central (play.mccentral.org). The full ten, with live player counts, are on this page.
TalonMC at play.talonmc.net. It is our number one, it takes both Java and Bedrock clients, and it hands you a rank on your first join, so you can judge it without spending anything.
TalonMC (play.talonmc.net), JartexNetwork (play.jartexnetwork.com), Minecraft Central (play.mccentral.org), Complex Gaming (play.mc-complex.com), ManaCube (play.manacube.com), OPBlocks (play.opblocks.com), Purple Prison (purpleprison.net) all answered a Bedrock status ping on port 19132, so Bedrock, console and mobile clients join those on the same address as Java players.
Yes, on the ones that answer a Bedrock ping, starting with TalonMC (play.talonmc.net). Console editions run Bedrock, so any entry we mark Bedrock accepts them on the same address.
Yes. Minecraft on Android and iOS is Bedrock, so the entries we mark Bedrock accept it, including TalonMC at play.talonmc.net.
CosmicPrisons (play.cosmicprisons.com) is the quietest entry here at 164 players, which suits anyone who would rather know the regulars than queue behind thousands of strangers.
Purple Prison (purpleprison.net), CosmicPrisons (play.cosmicprisons.com) report a player count for one world rather than for a network of gamemodes, so the number beside them is the number of people you will actually share a map with.
Because a multi-gamemode network answers one status ping for its whole platform. TalonMC (play.talonmc.net) is one of those, so its figure includes every mode it runs, not prison alone. We label those entries rather than letting the number answer a different question to the one you asked.
Yes, all ten are free to join and free to play with a Minecraft account. TalonMC (play.talonmc.net) also grants a rank on your first join through /freerank rather than selling you one.
TalonMC at play.talonmc.net. A free rank on join means you are not spending your first hour wondering whether the server expects your wallet, and it takes Java and Bedrock so you can join on whatever you already own.
No. Every server on this list runs server-side, so vanilla Minecraft connects to all of them. You only need the right client version, which each entry above prints.
Most entries accept a wide range. TalonMC (play.talonmc.net) takes clients from 1.8 - 26.2, so your current version will usually connect without changing anything. The exact range is on every entry above.
ExtremeCraft (extremecraft.net), CosmicPrisons (play.cosmicprisons.com), SaiCoPvP (saicopvp.com) did not answer a Bedrock status ping, so those are Java Edition only.
Open Minecraft, choose Multiplayer, click Add Server, put anything you like in the name field and the address in the second, for example play.talonmc.net for TalonMC, then save and double-click it.
Yes. We ping every listed address ourselves every three minutes and print what came back, with the age of the reading next to it. Nothing here is copied from another server list or typed in by hand, and if a ping goes stale the entry says so instead of showing a number we cannot stand behind.
Player counts refresh every three minutes. The published order is reviewed weekly, while hands-on testing and the player poll are refreshed monthly. Every position change is written up at https://bestprisonservers.com/changes, dated to the week it happened.
We do, from three things we re-run every month: hands-on testing by dozens of testers, a player vote on which prison server people actually recommend, and the live player counts we ping ourselves. There is no weighted formula and we do not publish one, because a ten-item list ordered by an arithmetic score implies a precision nobody ranking Minecraft servers has. No position is for sale. https://bestprisonservers.com/methodology has the detail.
No. No position on this list has ever been paid for, and there is no submission fee, sponsored slot or affiliate link anywhere on it.
Our number one, TalonMC (play.talonmc.net), is the server we recommend first and the one we know best. The order is our editorial judgement rather than an arithmetic output, which https://bestprisonservers.com/methodology states plainly so you can weigh it yourself.
Yes. https://bestprisonservers.com/api/rankings.json returns the full top ten as JSON with join addresses, live counts, 24 hour ranges, versions and Bedrock support. It is CC BY 4.0, so use it with attribution.
TalonMC at play.talonmc.net runs prison alongside four other gamemodes on the same address, so one IP covers Cobblemon, prison, skyblock, dungeons and an SMP as well.
Either it did not answer a status ping when we checked, we could not verify that it runs prison, or we chose not to list it. The list is ten servers, not every server, and a few are excluded at our discretion rather than ranked last.
People type this search a dozen different ways and mean roughly one thing. Here is each of them answered directly, so you do not have to work out which phrasing this page was written for.
If you are choosing between the servers above, these explain the mechanics they are all built on: the progression, the economy, the protection rules, and the jargon you will meet in chat.
The order is ours, set after playing the servers. We weigh how the prison actually plays past the first hour, how much of it sits behind the store, the live population we measure ourselves, whether the server is genuinely maintained, and public standing on TopG, Minecraft-MP and MinecraftServers.org as a sanity check.
Every server on this page has answered a live status ping from us, and the count beside each entry says how long ago that happened.
No server has paid for a position, in any slot, and we publish no star ratings for any server we rank.
