The best Minecraft prison server in 2026 is TalonMC, at play.talonmc.net. This post is the long version of our top 10 Minecraft prison servers ranking: the same order, with room to say what each entry actually runs, where its player count comes from, and what we could and could not verify about it.

Every server below answered a real status ping from us before it went on the list. That is a lower bar than it sounds, and it is one most prison server lists do not clear: a dead listing looks identical to a live one until you paste the IP and wait thirty seconds for a timeout.

Counts are read live from our own status pings at the moment this page was served. The order is ours, set after playing the servers, and the methodology page sets out what we weigh.

How this order was decided

By us, after playing them. Number one is TalonMC Prison at play.talonmc.net, and the rest follow in the order we would recommend them.

There is no weighted formula behind that, and we would rather say so. A list of ten servers ordered by an arithmetic score implies a precision nobody ranking Minecraft servers actually has, and every site publishing one is still adjusting the weights until the output matches its opinion. What we do commit to is that no position is for sale, and that every number on the page is measured rather than estimated: player counts and 24 hour ranges come from our own status ping to each server's own address every three minutes, and Bedrock support means an actual reply on port 19132. The methodology page sets out what we weigh and what we refuse to do.

One thing matters more on prison than on most gamemodes: several entries here are multi-gamemode networks whose status reply counts everybody on the network, not everybody in prison. A network reporting a thousand players might have two hundred of them mining. Those entries are labelled as network counts everywhere the number appears, because a network total answers a different question to the one you are asking.

Custom-coded rather than a stock prison plugin: you rank up through mines with /mine goto, mine Tokens, and spend them on OP enchants including Jackhammer for full layers, Nuke for chunk blasts, Vein Miner, Token Miner, Key Finder and Wild Blaze. Rebirths, multipliers and a dynamic /upgrade system open up behind that. Ranks, crates and rewards are earnable through play, votes and events, with daily keyalls on top, and /freerank gives you a rank on your first join. Java and Bedrock on one address, 1.8 to 26.2, over 30,000 votes across the lists it appears on.

#2 JartexNetwork - play.jartexnetwork.com

Jartex documents its prison mode on its own wiki rather than leaving you to guess: public mines, a personal cell to build in, gangs with missions and an outpost to capture, and three currencies where Crystals buy the custom enchants. The count above is a network total across every mode it runs, not prison alone. Bedrock answered on port 19132, so console and mobile join the same address.

#3 Minecraft Central - play.mccentral.org

Minecraft Central is a long-running multi-gamemode network whose own server message was advertising a fresh prison reset when we last pinged it, which means the mode is actively maintained rather than parked. A Bedrock status ping on port 19132 answered, so console and mobile clients can join the same address as Java players.

#4 Complex Gaming - play.mc-complex.com

One of the longest-running modded networks in Minecraft, with prison as one lane of a very wide lineup. It sits top of the prison category on two of the three vote sites we check. The trade is that it is a general network rather than a prison-first server, so the count above covers every mode it runs. Bedrock ping answered.

#5 ManaCube - play.manacube.com

ManaCube lists prison directly in its own server message, next to survival, parkour, earth, PvP, skyblock and creative, so the mode is one lane of a genuinely broad network rather than the whole product. That breadth is the trade: the count above is a network total, and only a slice of it is in prison at any given moment.

#6 ExtremeCraft - extremecraft.net

A long-established network that runs prison alongside survival and a custom item economy, and the highest-placed entry here in TopG's prison category. Its proxy accepts clients from 1.7.2 up, but it did not answer a Bedrock ping, so this one is Java only.

#7 OPBlocks - play.opblocks.com

OPBlocks names prison in its own server message and had just launched prison season 34 when we pinged it, so seasonal resets are the rhythm here rather than one permanent world. It runs close to its advertised slot ceiling at peak, which is worth knowing before you queue, and it answered a Bedrock ping.

#8 Purple Prison - purpleprison.net

Purple Prison is a prison-only server rather than a network lane, which is why its player count is entirely prison players and not a network total. Its own server message points at crate drops and warp PvP, and it accepts clients from 1.7 all the way to 1.21 plus Bedrock, one of the widest version ranges we measured.

#9 CosmicPrisons - play.cosmicprisons.com

CosmicPrisons is the other prison-only entry here, and its server message was advertising Version 6.0 Celestial with major changes when we pinged it. It runs a single modern client version rather than a wide compatibility range, and it did not answer a Bedrock ping, so this one is Java only.

#10 SaiCoPvP - saicopvp.com

SaiCoPvP runs its gamemodes as separate realms and had just reset all of them when we pinged it, so every mode including prison was starting fresh. It sits at the quiet end of this list by concurrent players, its count is a network total, and it is Java only.

OP prison or classic prison?

This is the only decision that really changes your first week. Classic prison keeps the original mine ladder from A to Z with sell prices close to vanilla, so rankup is slow, the plot world matters, and the PvP warps are where the server's social life happens. OP prison layers multipliers, boosted sell prices, enchant trees and prestige resets on top, so the numbers climb fast and the ceiling keeps moving.

Neither is better. They are different games that share a name, and there is more written about the split in OP prison versus classic prison.

What we could not verify

Two things, said plainly. First, on a handful of entries the prison mode is documented on the server's own website but was not named in the status message we captured, so we have flagged those internally rather than asserting the mode is live. Second, we have not audited every store, so the pay-to-win question on individual servers is answered with what the server itself claims and what we could see, not with a verdict we have not earned.

Starting on our number one

If you want the short version of this whole post: add play.talonmc.net under Multiplayer, pick Prison from the network menu, run /freerank, then /mine goto to start ranking. Mining pays out in Tokens, which buy OP enchants: Jackhammer breaks full layers, Nuke blasts out chunks, Vein Miner shatters veins, Token Miner raises your token rate, Key Finder drops crate keys as you mine, and Wild Blaze sends a blaze through your mine. Rebirths, multipliers and a dynamic /upgrade system open up behind that, and none of it is store-exclusive. The store does sell progression boosts on top, so read it as paid acceleration rather than paid power, and there is a note on the entry saying exactly that.

play.talonmc.net also answered a Bedrock ping on port 19132, so console and mobile players can join the same address, and prison is one of five gamemodes on the network alongside Cobblemon, skyblock, dungeons and an SMP.
